World Changers 2010 FAQsWorld Changers in 2010 will look a little different than it does now. Here are a few of the most asked questions related to World Changers. 1)Why is there a change to the weekly schedules for World Changers projects in 2010? World Changers projects have been based on a seven day schedule model since the beginning of the program. As World Changers celebrates 20 years of ministry in 2010, we want to set the program up for another 20+ successful years. During tough and uncertain economic times, we want to make sure we continue to provide the best possible missions experience at the best value to the local church. In order to do so, the new World Changers project schedule model starts on Monday and ends on Saturday. This new model allows us to offer the same dynamic missions experience without raising participant fees. It answers a concern that many youth leaders have shared over the years about not being able to miss a Sunday at their home church. We also believe it will be easier for church groups to secure adult chaperones since it requires a shorter time commitment on their part. 2) With the new schedule will we lose the connection with the local church who typically provides lunch for crews during the week? The new schedule does not allow for time to attend church on Sunday morning. We realize that over the years being able to worship with the church that feeds your crew during the week has provided some meaningful and memorable experiences. As we deliberated potential schedule changes as a staff, this issue was definitely number one related to losing something we value deeply. Because of that, we will be encouraging local Baptist Associations and churches to consider other opportunities for their churches to engage with the participants during the week of the project. We trust that in the end, some great things will happen as we think of creative ways to impact communities. 3) Is there still a night off? In the past the Wednesday night off at World Changers projects has provided groups an opportunity to see local sites and take a break midway through the week. The new project schedule model does not allow for a night off. Work begins in earnest on Tuesday morning and continues all day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For groups that are able to do so, we would encourage you to build in some time on the front end or after the project to experience some of the sites in the community. 4) Why are we paying more money for less project? Most World Changers projects for 2010 are priced at $249/person. Lodging and food costs have risen across the country, and this is one way we have chosen to address financial needs as opposed to actually raising participant fees. 5) Why is the deposit date different? What is the first payment? An initial $60/person deposit is due on January 15, 2010 to secure your spots at a project. A first payment towards balance of $60/person is due on March 15, 2010. The new process of deposits and first payment was put in place for us to be able to better gauge full commitment of a group coming to a project. As before, groups may register with no financial commitment up front (with the exception of the project in Hawaii). Registration begins August 1, 2009 at www.world-changers.net. |
